Marathon was started by Paul and Gail Nelson out of their two-car garage in the spring of 2000 to provide its customers with true value by combining service excellence with competitive pricing. Paul, a Boston moving veteran, was quickly joined by several friends to create Marathon’s core team of moving professionals. Marathon soon became known to local realtors, move coordinators, and clients eager to work with value-based Boston movers. With demand growing, the two-car garage did not last long and was soon replaced by larger commercial facilities.
The company has grown and new team members have been carefully vetted to ensure they had the desire to be the best. Holding employees new and old to the highest standards allowed Marathon to maintain a company of moving professionals that provides outstanding service from start to finish. Marathon chose to invest in its employees over advertising and starting in 2003 began removal of most advertising in favor of a strong benefits package for its employees. This decision was rewarded by its employees winning the 2004-2017 Super Service award from Angie’s List, the BBB Gold seal for excellence, and Best of Boston Movers 2013 by Boston Home Magazine. The greatest testimony however would be from our customers. Marathon now completes 2000 moves a year with over 85% coming from repeat or referral sources.
